Standard & Ultra-thin Twin Conductor Heating Cable

Besides standard (3.6mm) heating mats and heating cables, we are also producing and supplying ultra-thin ones with only 2.0 to 2.5mm thickness (FEP insulation) and 2.5 to 3.0mm thickness (nylon insulation). Such ultra-thin type is always for twin conductor underfloor heating systems.

Flame retardant PVC is very durable, and it is widely used to be the outer jacket of heatng cable due to its low cost. The twin conductor undertile heating mats and cables with PVC jacket can be made as thin as 3.6mm, while the single conductor ones can be made with 2.5 to 3.0mm thickness.

For twin conductor undertile heating mats and heating cables, using flame retardant nylon or FEP (teflon) as outer jacket can considerably reduce their thickness. Referring to the above picture, the thickness of twin condcutor mats and cables with FEP as outer jacket is 2.0 to 2.5mm and with nylon is 2.5 to 3.0mm, almost the same thickness of single conductor heating mats and cables with PVC jacket, additionally FEP jacket (205℃) has a high level of temperature resistance than nylon (150℃) and PVC (105℃).

Rather than PVC, Nylon and FEP are used for outer jacket, because PVC can not be made so thin due to its poor tensile property.

Remarks:

1. From the picture, we can see the standard heating cable with solid twin conductor heating wires and solid earth wire is made round, but the shape of ultra-thin is oval. So it is no problem if we say the thickness of standard mats and cables is 3.6mm, however it is incorrect if we say the thickness of ultra-thin ones is 1.5mm which is the height (Taking FEP outer jacket ultra-thin heating cable for example, the height of cable is 1.5 to 2.0mm, while its width is 2.0 to 2.5mm), because when a long oval cable is spaced, we can not make sure 1.5mm will be always the height, somewhere 2.0mm will be the height. That is why we always tell customers that our FEP ultra-thin mats and cables are 2.0mm thick.

2. Single conductor heating mats and cables with PVC jacket are already thin enough, and we do not recommend nylon or FEP ones to our customers. However we can produce them if customers have special and strict requirements on the thickness and quality.
